Overview
The Catholic Church started and went through with the inquisitions. They were basically a way for the Catholic Church to discover and punish heresy within the church. The punishments were generally severe and without rest until a person admitted their guilt, even if they weren't guilty. The first Inquisition was instituted by Pope Innocent II in Rome, but both England or Scandinavia, but did spread throughout the rest of Central and Western Europe.
There were many different types of inquisitions, generally separated into;

2. Spanish Inquisition
3. Portuguese Inquisition
4. Roman Inquisition
