The Emperors of the Roman Empire and the Christian Church
The Emperors of the Roman empire were all good Romans. They followed the roman gods and worshipped them in the correct ways, by praying, making sacrifices and other, less pleasent, forms of worship. They were all very devout Roman's and they also all had varying amounts of hate towards Christians.
They believed that the Christians could get powerful enough to endanger the power of the Emperor, by deferring to the bishops more. The Christians were following their own sets of rules and not the ones the Emperor set. Some of the christians even stated that they would not follow the Roman Emperors and only followed their leader Jesus Christ.
All of this leaded to the Roman Emperors hating and persecuting the Christians.
